Cherry and Walnut 12 inchers

Been finishing up Davy's Cherry banjo and Andrew's 'Kibbo Kift' Walnut banjo this week, both banjos have an awesome sound but I still have a day or 2 of tinkering to coax the best possible tone out of them. The audio files don't really do them justice, I was struggling to play with a finger pick after sanding half my claw nail off a week or so ago!!
Some really nice personal touches on both banjos, I'm really chuffed with how the hiker turned out on Andrew's banjo and the Cherry blossom on Davy's.
Check out Andrew's great band www.hatstandmedicineband.com/

Should have Tom's 'Dobson' banjo complete next week, along with the stock Maple banjo, so keep an eye out for those :)

Glad I made the trip down to pick up my Cherry 12” .It was a pleasure meeting up with Leon , visiting his workshop , sharing a few tunes , coffee and a chat . Very talented craftsman and musician.
I’m delighted with the final product . I’ve really enjoyed the journey of choices and back and forth communications with Leon , who approaches things with humility , patience , knowledge , and sometimes a kind of sixth sense as to what you’re after . Anticipation builds throughout the process and I have to say that all my expectations have been exceeded . It’s a really beautiful instrument . The ebony peghead rear , cherry blossom inlay on the heel , fretboard cascade , ebony armrest with inlays , everything about it is high quality, tasteful and stunning. The thickness of the ebony fretboard was a pleasant surprise, as was the neck width and shaping which make it very comfortable to play ...
My initial request was for a banjo that had a particular sound . I now have a instrument that is stunning visually, but more importantly has the sound I was looking for . It’s mellow , punchy , sweet and clear. Perfect combination that seems to have magically improved my playing !

Brilliant job Leon.

Thanks again.
Davy 🙏
