Been finishing off Tony's Cello banjo today, this is one helluva beast of a banjo, the deep, rumbling tones are seriously awesome. I'll be uploading a video in a few days with some better pics after I've done a little more tinkering.
Didn't get as far with the other banjos as I'd hoped but managed to get Steve's Cherry neck ready for shaping. Hopefully I should be have the first coats of oil on Dan's and Steve's banjos by mid week.

Been back in the workshop this week after spending some time with the family over the Easter holidays. Tony's banjo should be complete next week, I've been gradually stretching the skin for the last week and just applied the first coat of oil to the neck, the deep red colour of the dyed Maple neck will look great with dyed black Maple rim and Brass hardware. Really looking forward to finishing this one and hopefully starting on Tony's 5th 'Ballard' banjo soon ;)
Inlaid the MOP in my banjo, ready for engraving, glued up Steve's Cherry neck ready for working on next week and also got Graham's Cherry neck to the same stage ready to work on next month with Gary's mountain banjo. I'll be continuing on Dan's Walnut banjo next week and hopefully get it ready for oiling by next Friday. Time to crack open a beer and watch some 'Hap & Leonard! Andrew's banjo is nearly finished, just a couple of spikes to install. Turned out great :) 11" Black Walnut rim with Ebony cap and Brass rod tone ring Black Walnut neck, Ebony 25.5" scale fingerboard with hand cut Mother of Pearl inlays. Been working on Tony's banjo today, it took several hours to roll, braze and cut the slots in the 14" tension hoop, not my idea of fun! Just need to do some refining on the rear of the neck before sanding, staining and oiling.
Also managed to get the fingerboards planed, slotted and profiled for the Cherry necks on Steve's and Graham's banjos and cut a shit load of blocks ready to be glued for some Cherry and Walnut rims. |
