| The latest commission. I think this is the 4th or 5th 'Ashbourne' style rim I've made, it's a fair bit of work to construct, but they look really nice and have a big, resonant sound. I came up with my take on the style around 15 years ago, made with a 3ply rim, sliced in half, with a 2 layer block central flange and a block tone ring and cap, making it extremely strong. Minimal hooks on this one, to keep it as light as possible, weight ended up approx 4.1lbs. 12" Walnut rim, with Ashbourne style flange Rosewood tone ring and rim cap Customer supplied 'Balch' goat skin head Walnut neck 24.75" scale Rosewood fingerboard Rickard 'Cyclone' tuners Ebony capped Walnut 'Ballard' bridge D'Addario light plus strings. | |
