This old Windsor is in excellent condition for 100 years old, nice low action, with a very straight neck. The vellum has most likely been replaced at some point, it has some green marks coming through around the edges, most likely from a corroded steel flesh hoop, but otherwise in great shape. The tuners are original, not particularly smooth, but as to be expected with the age.
Lovely bright tone, strung up with light gauge D'Addario, will tune happily to G, but also just as nice down to F. Rosewood body Walnut neck 27 1/4" scale length String height @ 12th fret is approx 3/32" With original case, latches work, but lock doesn't! |

I currently have it strung up to the same intervals as an Irish tenor banjo, but a whole tone lower, so it can be capoed at the 2nd fret to put it in the correct key, it also sounds great with standard strings, tuned to plectrum tuning, as it was intended (CGBDor DGBD). This banjo features some very high quality hardware, check out the attention to detail on the hook turnings and the engraving on the spun pot. It weighs around 4.5 kg, making it a pretty hefty banjo. This banjo has obviously been well loved and well played over the years! |
